Event Notification: How the FAFSA Works, Financial Aid & EFC Lesson

Event Notification

Thank you for choosing to implement the GEAR UP Georgia and Georgia Student Finance Commission "How the FAFSA Works" Financial Aid & EFC Lesson Plan. Your decision to begin early conversations in the classroom about financial aid and FAFSA completion may just be a game-changer for some students. Just remember 9 out of 10 students that complete the FAFSA enroll in college.

FAFSA noncompletion rates present an enormous opportunity because FAFSA completion is so strongly correlated with good postsecondary student outcomes. First, FAFSA completion is strongly associated with postsecondary enrollment: 90 percent of high school seniors who complete FAFSA attend college directly from high school, compared to just 55 percent of FAFSA non-completers. Second, research has found that every additional $1,000 in grant aid per student increases postsecondary persistence rates by 4 percentage points.  - National College Access Network
